It's still early but I feel great today!

Yesterday I didn't know if I was going to make it. I felt really weak (perhaps from throwing up the night before) and Kai said I was really pale. We have a juicer, so I juiced a couple strawberries and added the juice to my lemon concoction. It made me feel better and able to work during the Lakers game.

Here is a list of things I am craving:
-- Sushi!!!
-- Jorge's chicken soup!!
-- BJ's chopped chicken salad

I am craving chicken really bad, I think its cause I don't have any protein. But in 5 days, I can have it -- as long as its in juice form. Ugh..

So I am on day 4 -- but let's recap day 3.

I felt great all day! I had awesome energy, cooked Kaili an awesome dinner, and felt motivated through the whole thing. The trouble came when I did my saltwater flush!

I convinced Kai to ditch the chocolate chip cookies I was gonna make her (told you, bad for her - good for me) and do the saltwater flush! We both got *so* sick... I am not sure if its doing it two days in a row (Kai did it 3) or if there was more salt but I immediately threw up. It was absolutely horrible -- I decided to stick with the tea tonight and from now on! Oddly, the salt water still had the intended effects. I dunno!

Today I feel good. I feel like I have a cold - which is apparently part of the fast because it's ridding toxins from my body so I am getting odd pains and a cold. 6 days left, I am almost halfway there!

More later.

<link rel='alternate' type='text/html' href='http://itsabeautifulmorning.blogspot.com/2009/06/day-3-ugh.html' title='Day 3.. The taste is pretty horrible - but the effects are well worth it! It's kinda like drinking two glasses of ocean water...miserable. The end results sound like (pardon the gross) pouring water bottles into the toilet. I do it tonight too -- kinda refreshing!

Today I woke up feeling good! A little dehydrated, so today I am going to work on drinking more water. I also used my automatic juicer for the first time this morning -- apparently, it produces more pulp in the juice which has more vitamins, minerals, and fiber.. It came out less clear of a yellow, a bit more cloudy like orange juice. I will find out today if the taste is any different!

I also learned that my juicer can do wheatgrass! Before I began this fast, I was having wheatgrass every morning. It's nice to know that when I finish the fast, I'll be able to grow it and still make it drink-able! So cool!!

Off to work for the day -- day 3 is supposed to be when things start getting easier! I'll keep you posted...

w.

Day 2 .. Evening

So far, so good. (i think that is going to be my motto for the next 8 days)

I am really doing okay -- still feeling motivated and I seem to subside my hunger pains with water. The end of my 1L of magic mixture is always really spicy - I think the cayenne settles and the last three gulps are usually pretty miserable. The stinging in my throat seems to be something I will get used to!

I also decided that cooking is something that makes me really happy. Even if it isn't for me! Today at work I cut up about 8 loaves of bread for croutons and didn't even eat one piece. I was impressed with myself. Then tonight I helped Kaili make cream cheese wontons, pork wontons (with a dipping sauce I invented but didn't try!), and tacos. I am looking up a dessert recipe that has ingredients we have in the house. I guess these are things I normally do but you'd think that given my current state of empty stomach, it would be a deterrent! It's not.

Poor Kaili is going to gain weight while I'm cleansing!

I was really excited to do this cleanse and looked forward to it for a few weeks. I am still really motivated -- I am finding that my connection with food isn't a healthy one and it's really nice to take a step back and realize something I felt I needed is actually something I am doing just fine without. Rewarding and enlightening.

Still dreading the salt water cleanse -- don't worry, I'll keep you posted!

w.

<link rel='alternate' type='text/html' href='http://itsabeautifulmorning.blogspot.com/2009/06/day-2-evening.html' title='Day 2 .. I didn't finish the rest of my drink - perhaps too much cayenne pepper! I figured that cayenne was no biggie because I love spicy food (mmm..food).. but I was wrong. Its more than eating a jalapeno, it kinda burns all the way down my esophagus. So today I made the same drink but added a bit less cayenne. Hopefully that works!

I woke up today with a lot of energy -- I slept through the morning hunger pains and woke up ready to do laundry, get ready for work, and feel pretty motivated. Supposedly, this will be the hardest day to get through. I am staying positive -- and avoiding my favorite cooking shows!

Tonight I do my first salt water flush, *gulp*. It's probably a good thing because without it, I don't know if I will poop!

I am off to work -- which I am hoping isn't too difficult. Working in a restaurant on a fast feels like it could be bad news, but I know I am this far... no turning back! Plus, I have meditation time to look forward to.

More later!

Whitney

Day 1 of 10

Day 1 --
Recently, I have felt really uncomfortable in my body. I have wanted to get back in shape, start eating healthy, and recently I felt the antsy need-for-change anxiety I get about every six - eight months. So in response to my body and unfocused mind, I decided to do a whole body cleanse in the form of a 10 day fast. The fast is accompanied by a lemonade mixture (lemonade, maple syrup, and cayenne pepper) and salt water flush each evening.

I am taking the next ten days to focus on myself, my body, and my mind. I have set time aside to meditate, spend time alone, and spend quality time with Kaili. I know that it is time for me to focus and get back in health - in a lot of ways!

Soo... why blog? Well, I've read writing the foods down that you are craving helps get rid of the craving! But besides that, I think it is important to share the details of the fast - many of you plan to do it :) and I think I can prepare you for the worst - and best - through my experiences. Plus, if I need motivation - this is probably a good place to go!
--------------
Day 1 -

Last night, as instructed, I drank my organic laxative tea. Ouch! I've taken it before but it never fails to give me cramps and I suppose the desired result! It takes about 8 hours to work, so I take it right before bed so I can get some sleep! I learned the hard way, if you take it too early it definitely works earlier.
This morning, I took meditation time at the beach. Truly incredible. And now I am working on drinking my first lemonade of the morning. More later...

Cheers to day 1!

Domestic Partnership v. Marriage

I can't tell you how many times I have heard, "well I am okay with you have domestic partnership.... but marriage, no way! It's the same rights anyway."

This mentality is the "separate but equal" mentality that has proven failure in every instance used before and is false. Separate and unequal. There are many differences between Domestic Partnership (in some states - civil unions) and marriage. It can be confusing - a lot of times this confusion can be intentionally caused and sometimes its just lack of awareness.. What, then, are the major differences?

It is important to note, though, that I am speaking directly to California which is one of the more "fortunate" states in the rights domestic partnership offers. Many states, like Washington, offer very very very few.

So onward:

Taxes - Domestic Partnerships are not recognized by the federal government. Therefore, any taxes must be filed seperately and the benefits married couples receive do not apply to gay and lesbian couples.

Universal Recognition - Domestic Partnerships are recognized by the state only. If they travel to another state, this holds no value. An important example is a vacation - if my girlfriend and I were on vacation and became ill or injured to the point of hospitlization, there is no universal recognition of our relationship so there is no guarantee that i would be allowed to see her in the hospital, have an opinion in her care, or any other decision-making ability.

Immigration: Heterosexual couples have the ability to sponsor their partner who is not a US resident. This will help them gain citizenship and legal recognition. This is not an option for domestic partnerships and can, in fact, cause the government to look closer into their relationship and be more skeptical in granting citizenship. In this circumstance, it is recommended for the couple to seek legal advice.

Benefits: The General Accounting Office in 1997 released a list of 1,049 benefits and protections available to heterosexual married couples. "These benefits range from federal benefits, such as survivor benefits through Social Security, sick leave to care for ailing partner, tax breaks, veterans benefits and insurance breaks. They also include things like family discounts, obtaining family insurance through your employer, visiting your spouse in the hospital and making medical decisions if your partner is unable to." Though some of these are awarded to domestic partners, not all of them are.
-------------
From About.com:
But can’t a lawyer set all this up for gay and lesbian couples?

No. A lawyer can set up some things like durable power of attorney, wills and medical power of attorney. There are several problems with this, however.

1. It costs thousands of dollars in legal fees. A simple marriage license, which usually costs under $100 would cover all the same rights and benefits.
2. Any of these can be challenged in court. As a matter of fact, more wills are challenged than not. In the case of wills, legal spouses always have more legal power than any other family member.
3. Marriage laws are universal. If someone’s husband or wife is injured in an accident, all you need to do is show up and say you’re his or her spouse. You will not be questioned. If you show up at the hospital with your legal paperwork, the employees may not know what to do with you. If you simply say, "He's my husband," you will immediately be taken to your spouse's side.

--------------

From the outside, the separate and equal seems like a pretty good idea. Hey, they gays get their rights without infringement on the religious view of marriage. Nice! However, there are many places where the law fails to protect the rights of the gay community.

I encourage all of you to do your research, know your facts, and when it comes time - make the decision for equality. Please don't forget: The United States Constitution guarantees equality for all.

Love will prevail. Don't give up.

Peacefully,
Whitney

<link rel='alternate' type='text/html' href='http://itsabeautifulmorning.blogspot.com/2008/12/domestic-partnership-v-marriage.html' title='Domestic Partnership v. Obama's transition team has also reportedly named at least seven openly homosexual people to transition panels assigned to review federal departments and agencies. Three of the seven homosexuals on transition panels have held high-level positions in the Clinton administration.
--------

Hope was the message that Obama's campagin ran on. Hope for a brighter future. Hope for a competent and successful leader. Hope for peace - both at home and abroad. and Hope for a fair-minded and just community.

Hope is what he brought the White House. Time to visit with loved ones, family, and just a time to reflect on life - focusing on the positive times. I received this email from Taskforce and I encourage you to take the advice... this Season, talk about your love, talk about your life, relationships, hardships... just be who you are, as I have said this whole time - because that has brought us this far.

---------------
It's amazing what we've accomplished together these last few weeks. The California Supreme Court has agreed to review the legal challenges to Proposition 8, and the protests and the actions of thousands in our community have forced the public eye on the inequality that LGBT people face every day.

But our fight is far from over. In fact, there's one thing you can do this week to help move the needle even further.

Talk.

Talk to your family and friends when you sit down to Thanksgiving dinner. Talk to your co-workers when they ask what you are doing for the holiday. Talk to your neighbors when you stop to chat outside your apartment or home.Tell them about your life, your relationships, how you feel about the state constitutional amendments. It seems simple, but far too many of us know how hard it can be to talk honestly about our lives. Telling our stories is what will make a difference in our pursuit of equality. Hearing from you, hearing about your life is what will change the hearts and minds of every American, one by one — starting with those closest to you.

So take the time this week to talk. Your story is important to this movement and it truly matters.
---------------
Be peaceful. Be visible. and Be thankful.

Whit

A day to remember...

Today is Transgender Day of Remembrance. This day is set aside to remember those who have died due to prejudice and hatred. Hatred towards those who do not easily wear labels like "male" or "female" or "man" and "woman."

Over the last decade, more than one person per month has died due to transgender-based hate or prejudice, regardless of any other factors in their lives (gender.org). Most anti-transgender hate crimes are rarely solved.

The Transgender Day of Remembrance exists for several reasons. It raises public awareness.. there are candlelight vigils nationwide, so please check gender.org for one near you. It gives positive media attention toward our transgender community. It also allows us to, again, unite and mourn and remember our transgender sisters who may otherwise be forgotten. Candlelight vigils put faces to the many names and allows the transgender community and allies to mourn together, to give a voice to those who have died, and to let non-transgender people know that transgender people are not "freaks" but their sisters, brothers, daughters, sons, mothers, fathers, and so often great friends.

"Although not every person represented during the Day of Remembrance self-identified as transgendered — that is, as a transsexual, crossdresser, or otherwise gender-variant — each was a victim of violence based on bias against transgendered people."

Below is a list of names.. which undoubtedly fails to cover everyone it should. Please read the names and take a moment to remember them.

Edna Brown
Tyra Hunter
Huriell Lockett(David King)
UnknownNew York City, 1972
Rhonda Star(Ronnie Dean Lyles)
Cynthia Coffman
Felicia Coffman
Harvey Aberles
UnknownAtlanta, 10/29/91
Jamie Ford
Jean (Woodrow) Powell
Unknown,Atlanta 12/20/92
Anthony Swain
Derry Glenn
Quincy Favors Taylor
Lynn Therrett
David A. People truly are reaching out and educating, linking arms, and becoming visible. In the aftermath of the passing of Proposition 8, I have done a lot of thinking about the recognition of gay marriage and what it means to families... a commonality between both the opponents and supporters of 8.

Family: Family denotes a group of people affiliated by consanguinity, affinity, and co-residence .(Webster.com)

Family is something that is important in nearly everyone's life. Though it may not always be blood-related family, people create families of their own. Too often, GLBT youth and adults find that their sexuality separates them from their family. Parents disown their children, brothers and sisters feel they cannot relate, grandparents find no way to be supportive, and members of the GLBT community become isolated from their very foundation. I have done some research and these statistics are appalling:

Of the estimated 1.6 million homeless American youth, between 20 and 40 percent identify as lesbian, gay, bisexual or transgender (LGBT).

In one study, 26 percent of gay teens who came out to their parents/guardians were told they must leave home

Homeless LGBT youth are more likely to: use drugs, participate in sex work, and attempt suicide

LGBT youth report they are threatened, belittled and abused at shelters by staff as well as other residents

And alarmingly:
There are no city-, county- or state-funded initiatives targeted at specifically helping LGBT homeless youth.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Those are a small portion of the many disturbing statistics and facts I have found. A very small portion.

So - you may ask, what does this have to do with Prop 8 and gay marriage?

Prop 8 may be directly worded to legalize gay marriage, but for the gay community it does a lot more than that. Not only is it legal recognition of our love and relationships, it removes our second-class citizenship and makes us completely equal with every other person in our state. This is something we have yet to become and we remain separate and unequal.

Our current legal state sets the precedent for many unfair judgements, misunderstandings, and long-lasting stereotypes to constantly inhibit us. The ability to be seen as equal will help remove those stereotypes and misunderstandings that too often end in violence. It will help parents realize their child is still their child and lovable. It will help create safe-places for youth and a sense of community and equality.

Many people are unaware that the GLBTQ community has been active in obtaining equal rights since the 1960s, if not before then. This is something that has been happening and will happen until equality is achieved.

What would you do if your family disowned you for simply loving? Where would you go if your friends didn't understand? Millions of children and adults are in this situation... what if it is someone you know? It's likely it is...

Hope-filled,
Whitney

Many of you have been following the Prop 8 since it originally appeared on the ballot. It has become a focal part of many of our lives - both gay and straight, both for and against.

I think one thing has become clear through all of this: stripping any HUMAN of rights is violating a. our constitution and b. the American dream. Prop 8 did exactly that... it **eliminated rights** of an entire group of people. No matter what someone feels about the actual issue - the proposition stripped rights from thousands, millions, of California citizens.

Below is an email I received from EQCA (Equality California) that I feel is important to share with all of you. Those of you who have wanted to become active, to become a part of the civil rights movement we see ahead of us - this is your opportunity. Help gather signatures, be visible... for those of you who don't want to be active, and even if you don't agree with these ideas, please remember that this isn't about your religion or your marriage - it will affect neither of those. Please give our rights back, remove us from second-class citizenship, and do as little as put your signature on the prop 8 ballot if needed.

Below is the email and below that is Keith Olbermann's Special Comment on Prop 8. "If this country hadn't re-defined marriage, black people still couldn't marry white people. Sixteen states had laws on the books which made that illegal... in 1967. 1967." That was a mere 41 years ago, my friends. Only 41 years.

November 12, 2008

Dear Whitney,

Together, we must do everything we can to overturn Prop 8 and regain the freedom to marry.

Equality California's pledge is to do everything in our power to channel all of the incredible energy, both in California and around the nation, into a campaign that will get back our rights .So here is our plan:EQCA, represented by NCLR, ACLU, Lambda Legal, Munger, Tolles, & Olson and the Law Office of David C. Codell, has filed a petition to invalidate Prop 8 – the fundamental rights of same-sex couples cannot be eliminated through the amendment process.

EQCA is supporting peaceful rallies and protests to ensure we keep this injustice front and center.
EQCA will work to expand our coalition and create the tools so that each of us can reach out and educate those who were not with us last week
EQCA will work as part of a coalition to gather the more than one million signatures needed to overturn Prop 8 at the ballot box.

Here’s how YOU can help:Donate now– Every dollar will go to the fight to invalidate Prop 8 -- the work has already started.

Be visible. Rally at your local City Hall at 10:30 a.m. PT/1:30 ET this Saturday, November 15. Events are happening across the country at exactly the same time, to show the nation we will not give up.

Sign the pledge that you will work to educate people who did not support us and help gather signatures to put a repeal of Prop 8 on the ballot if needed. We will contact you soon.

To win, it will take all of us working together to cross the finish line. We need everyone’s help. Not just yours—everyone’s.

Join the fight to win back marriage today!

In solidarity,
Geoff Kors

Keith Olbermann's amazing special comment.

The blogs will continue. I know I have some new readers in the house...welcome and please feel free to comment any time..

Fighting the good fight,
Whitney

The time has come...

<img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5267550971505095410" style="DISPLAY: block; I have heard the usual church arguments, school and education arguments, and recently I heard, "I don't understand what the big deal is." I have heard that my being upset is similar to a child not getting their way - or someone not getting an occupation and blaming it on their race or socio-economic status.

These things are very difficult to handle because usually the people who say these things have yet to face discrimination to this extent. They have not encountered their government deciding who they can and cannot marry, what types of legal recognition or benefits they receive, or even had to contemplate what they need to do in order to ensure they have decision-making status if their partner gets sick or is in the hospital. They take for granted the recognition of their relationship from their and their partner's family, and never really have to be concerned that they may not even, legally, be admitted to the hospital to visit their sick or dying partner.

Though this is not their fault because these rights have been awarded to them, and expected from them, since they were born. It is however, important for them to realize that many gay couples who have been together for both a short and extremely long time, do not share these same benefits or expectations. While heterosexual couples benefit from "traditional" marriage rights, gay couples are told that they should be happy they at least have some rights in domestic partnership. They may be separate - and unequal - but at least it's something, right?

San Francisco Mayor Gavin Newsom recently said something very relevant, "All they did was fall in love and say I do. Nothing more than that. They entered into a legal marriage, not a religious marriage."

For this reason, I strongly urge the straight community to analyze your marriages. To look at the legal benefits and the rights that you have. I also urge you to look at the people who also do not engage in religious marriage - atheists, agnostics, people who ultimately divorce, and people who get married for reasons other than romance. They are able to get married merely because they are heterosexual.

For my gay community - I commend your peaceful protests. It is truly incredible that we can not only unite as a community, but we can gather more than 12,500 people in one place and end with no arrests. This is truly something to be proud of. Today, California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger also commended our rallies and protests and said that he too hopes the protests continue until Prop 8 is overturned. Continue educating, continue rallying, and continue to be yourselves because this is what makes us truly powerful and it is us that can convince the world that we are no longer okay being second-class citizens.

Keep fighting the good fight. Every minute is worth it.

Yours in solidarity,
Whitney

Thousands came...

"Thousands took to the streets tonight in Long Beach to protest the passage of Proposition 8 in last Tuesday's general election." It was truly an incredible sight - thousands of people demanding something so simple: equal rights. It was powerful and emotional - and mildly disturbing to think that three days ago - these people were seen as equals, as citizens, and after an election (that is potentially unlawful), they are now - again - second-class citizens

.I have attached a video for you all to see. I wish someone could tell me why these thousands of people can't get married. Why they, and myself, are so undeserving.

On another extremely important note - I got an email from No on 8 that had some pretty important stuff: "We achieve nothing if we isolate the people who did not stand with us in this fight. We only further divide our state if we attempt to blame people of faith, African American voters, rural communities and others for this loss. We know people of all faiths, races and backgrounds stand with us in our fight to end discrimination, and will continue to do so. Now more than ever it is critical that we work together and respect our differences that make us a diverse and unique society. Only with that understanding will we achieve justice and equality for all."

It is true that the Mormon church and its congregation donated over 1.5 million dollars to the Yes on 8 Campaign. That was extremely hate-filled and disgusting but it is likely they will be unable to keep their tax exempt status.

The same is true for groups like Knights of Columbus. Knowing their faith, their ideas and actions are between God and them. I wish they felt the same way about my life and me.

Anyway - I just think its vital that at a crucial time where gays and lesbians are being watched so closely - we need to remember that everything we do represents our community. Everything we helps people see that we are humans. Humans that love other humans and deserve nothing less than equal rights.

Keep fighting the good fight,
Whitney

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gihdawVDIT0

Out like Trout!

"Okay, you want a machiatto? It's two story, small, and decorated with comic-style male pornography. Which, of course, caters to the desired and most frequently encountered customer: gay men!

I really enjoy this job - it is Fri, Sat, and Sunday night. Open Mic night is Friday - and Belly Dancing is Sunday. Such a blast. Nothing concludes a week like poor comedians and mildly overweight belly dancers. Honestly, it is perfect. The only problem is that I am still a bit bored during the week. With time, I will be able to pick up hours and am looking for a second job until school starts. Preferably in a cafe or coffee setting! As usual, I manage to slack on the whole internet thing. My time on myspace has dwindled and my effort to be more present on facebook has, again, failed. However, blogword, I am still attempting to keep up to date.

The past month has been an interesting one. My car was broken into and Meredith (my GPS) was stolen. Tragic; and she is no where to be found.

Work is work and school is still school. I applied to CSULB for the credential program but have not heard back yet; we'll see. I have a back up plan at CSULA, majoring in Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) and specializing in behavior modification with children with autism. We'll see, everything happens for a reason.

The other big thing in my life has been my diet change. Each week is a struggle to make sure to stay under my points and fight cravings but in the last two weeks it has gotten much much easier!! I am, officially, a size 14 in some Target clothes and aiming for 7/9/10 by the time summer comes around. I bought my first bikini and intend to wear it during the whole summer. It is nice to feel healthier and hit the gym religiously. I have successfully given up diet coke and drink about 4L of water a day. This is just the beginning of major change, I can feel it.

reach out and touch faith

today as i drove to work, i popped in my jennifer knapp cd and remininsced about my child and teenage years. in case you aren't aware, jennifer knapp is a christian artist who kind of fell off the face of the earth, musically speaking. mainly, there are rumors that she came out as a lesbian and was shunned by her recording company. this may only be a rumor. the important part is that she is no longer in the christian industry and seems to be mia.

listening to her songs, i did an imaginary timeline in which i traced my own faith-based past. many people find it hard to believe i was a "die-hard" christian, mostly because of my increasingly liberal views on most world and social issues. however, it is true. i was raised in a very christian household with a mother who was (and is) a very strong believer. i went to church as a small child and eventually went to youth group in middle and high school. I began to become pretty active in my church around the age of 12 or 13 and stayed active until I was about 17. most people, upon speculation, will say that once i decided to come out i felt that church wasn't for me. i guess that may be true. however, i think the realization that i could have no faith in a place that couldn't see past a small portion of me resulted in my lack of interest.

i had a group of very close friends in high school. five of them: cassie, alanna, tarin, carissa, and stephanie. they were my "bff" my "ffe" and mostly my favorite people in the world. alanna and i hung out nearly every day of the week - she is actually the one who taught me to put on makeup. cassie was alanna's sister and equally as fun; my entire family laughs about the time she took every condiment out of the fridge and wrote her name on it with a sharpie. i guess this kind of opened our eyes to how long condiments last! tarin and i also spent a lot of waking time together - she loved to dance and mostly we just laughed. carissa and i produced videos, went in the spa, and focused alot on making each other confident in ourselves. and stephanie was the first person i met in 10th grade with a matching pink backpack. i think that was the reason for our clickage. us and two other boys were voted "best friends" in that year's yearbook.

my other best friend is one i've had since pre-school.

the reason i bring them up now is because stephanie is really the only one whom i still talk to. she was very kind in allowing me to live with her for a couple months when i left my parents. after i came out to the others, our friendship slowly dissipated. their disapproval of me, based of faith, became evident and slowly they quit returning my phone calls, listening to my issues, or being supportive in general. i know i probably played a part in pushing them away as well. they all still talk, hang out, and have been at each other's weddings. however, my existence seems to be forgotten. since then, i have written letters apologizing to them and left them voicemails. looking back, i have nothing to apologize for. i am proud of my life, proud of who i am becoming and who i already am. i maintain the attitude that it is them that is missing out, not me. however, it still hurts me to know that they have shunned a supposed best friend based on faith reasons alone. one of them talks to my sister when she gets her hair and nails done, i don't think she asks about me.

i can remember my best friend since preschool calling me to tell me she is no longer comfortable with the idea of living together based on my sexuality. she also wrote me an extensive letter, explaining that she still loves me but does not agree on my "lifestyle choice" and feels that my eternity is likely jeopardized. i think that hurt me more than most things.

it's just odd to me, that a religion based on not judging lest you be judged, relying on a savior to forgive other people of their sins, and even that everyone is a sinner has pushed me away in so many directions. these people are the ones that i grew up with, knew me as a best friend, and still shunned me based on a portion of my life that doesn't really affect them.

i know that when i get married, it would be a compromise on their behalf to attend the wedding. however, i flew out to florida to attend my best friend's wedding to a man she had met on the internet only a month before then. not because i approved and not because it was an easy thing to do, but because i love her and support her in her decisions. i just hope the decision she is making turns out to be the right one and if it turns out not to be, i know that i would be just as supportive in helping her pick up the pieces. i guess i thought that is what friends were for.

i guess this is a major portion in why my view on faith is shattered. since high school, i have met quite a few people who have helped me pick up my faith pieces and realize that these experiences don't reflect every aspect of religion. my bff is studying to be a minister and reaches out daily touching people who are different. she doesn't try to win them over, just loves them. my mother has made leaps and bounds and has loved me continually. whether or not she understands me, she has opened her arms and loved me. explaining what this means to me is impossible but i know any amount of gratitude is not enough. my girlfriend's mom is so loving and so accepting of people and their differences. Not as a fault but merely as a difference.

As I get older, my feelings toward faith are more rational and more grounded. my anger has subsided and been replaced with an effort toward reconciliation. My pride has had a tough time coming to terms with the fact that i was hurt my friend's actions. It still happens that when i peer into their blogs or other online social groups, my stomach hurts. This will subside though, with time, as it has already. I found that I felt strongly when it came to my girlfriend being educated about faith and even if this doesn't always reflect my personal beliefs, I think lessons about loving each other and being kind to the earth are irreplaceable and encouraging.

I guess my goal of blogging more frequently dissipated as quickly as it appeared. However, I have the option to always make the one of my resolutions. Of which, I rarely believe in.

Christmas was incredible. Every year, I am amazed at how close my family has become and enjoy every second. Our tradition has changed but it seems to be for the best. I also have the best meal of the year on Christmas. Since I stopped forcing my family to go to the Midnight Service, I also get the best night's sleep all year.

I had Christmas again the following evening with my lady. She is truly incredible. To leave out mushy details, we finished Christmas how we started it: a full bottle of wine. or two. If I ever lacked a positive outlook for the future, she definitely helps me find it. I am a lucky lucky girl.

Christmas came and went. And then we celebrated New Years. It was an interesting evening accompanied by the aforementioned lady, new friends, absinthe, and an old...flame? It was odd to see her for the first time in almost a year, however it was only midly uncomfortable. It was also strange to see how nothing had changed - roommate still exists. Control still exists. Very sad. My New Year was brought in with a kiss that a barely remember (because of my run-in with Absinthe) but am positive it was the only way I would want to bring in the New Year. Below you will find a list of resolutions. Of this list, I resoluted (?) to only break two. I am not sure which two, but hey... we all need a little leeway.

1. Learn to communicate better and more effectively. This is true in romantic relationships as well as friendships and familial relations
2. Follow the G.I. Diet and lose 50 lbs by April.
3. Quit drinking Jager.
4. Stay organized at home and at work.
5. Stop living to work.
6. Participate in more community service.

In other news, I have caved and purchased the Britney Spears cd. It is amazing. I also purchased the new KT Tunstall cd - equally as good as her first!

I'm having a type of "spoiled culture" guilt today. As much as I hate it, I think it needs to happen more often. It may be the stereo-typical weather and holiday season that started its onset - but either way, its there. It's the kind of guilt that nags on me. That goes against everything I have been socially taught and is more difficult for me to fight than guilt caused by more traditional wrong-doings. The idea that I own too many shoes and still, even when "broke", I can manager to purchase a new one. Socially, things that are worn are considered unacceptable and display an obvious lack of self-care or negligence for personal appearance. Leaving out the very large recycling of goods perspective, on pure analysis of societal pressure and acceptance, the entire concept is frustrating. and the fact that I don't know how to fix it and fall guilty to it myself is frustrating as well. More later

Another frustration is that I have a paper due tonight. And I haven't started. A powerpoint. And I haven't started.

But my girlfriend is coming home today!!

Oh gravity, stay the hell away from me

Fire: the event of something burning (often destructive); "they lost everything in the fire" (wikipedia).

So much tragedy surrounds the recent fires in Southern California. It seems like, as things burn, it is easier to distance ourselves from the emotional aspects and turn to faulting and finding reasons as to why this happens. Sometimes, I think, understanding peoples' fear, losses, and experiencing (or at least realizing) the humanity behind these tragedies are what bring people closer together. And sometimes it is the only thing we can do to help.

Kaili's families were evacuated because of the fires in San Diego. It seems as though both houses are in the clear - which is really amazing news. Sadly, others aren't as lucky and I know that as the damage is uncovered and more houses are revealed, things that seem surreal now may become more personal to her and her family. We can only hope for the best.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
In other news, I have officially doubled up in courses. If I disappear, that is why. If you look at my life in semester framework, I am taking 8 classes a semester. My day planner has become meticulously laid out and my social life is suffering the same consequence. However, these are things that are important.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I am looking for a book-club! I would prefer a queer book club, but I am not sure that is going to happen given the geographical place I currently reside. For those of you who have seen Office Space, I have a severe case of the Monday's. I am exhausted from work and it's only 1:25. On the same accord, I can't believe it's already 1:25!

I wrote this blog for two reasons. The first is merely due to the realization that there are some things I will never understand until it happens to me. For example, shoes on the freeway. How does that even happen? Also, whose responsibility is it to clean roadkill of an interstate like the 5? Does anybody have the answers or experiences that can make these natural wonders a little bit more clear?

In other news, I am still bread, sugar, beer, and cheese-free.

The second reason for writing this is of more importance, today is National Latino AIDS Awareness Day. A couple facts:

In 2005, Latinos made up 18% of the estimated 1 million AIDS cases diagnosed since HIV started in the U.S. over 25 years ago, despite making up only 14% of the U.S. population

HIV/AIDS became the fourth leading cause of death among Latino men and women between 35 to 44 years old in 2004

And here's some resources:

http://www.thebody.com/espanol.html

http://www.hivla.org/search_esp.cfm

You've been a long time gone

Well, Blogworld. I am back! Generally, I have limited internet access at work so this is the only website I can use. I am really only on the computer at work now because I am so busy otherwise.

Not many updates in my life. The world of the girlfriend is ah-mazing. Unexplainable really, only to say that it's exactly how it should be. I am not sure what that entails, except that everything is right. and comfortable. and feeling abnormally long-term. we're closer to six months now, than we are to five - and it all goes by so quickly. I am very fortunate.

I am 21 now! Finally! (<--which is exactly what Elizabeth wrote on my I'm 21! shirt) and so far so good! I went out to Broadway on Wednesday and it was so awesome. I think it is one of the best bar experiences I've had (imagine that!). A good group of friends and eighteen drinks later.. I was pretty set. I didn't get sick, surprisingly, but the last half of the evening is fuzzy, if it even exists at all.

Then I went to Las Vegas... AMAZING. Despite a couple grumpy moods, it was such a good trip. I saw Zumanity (the Cirque show) and it was so incredible. It was Kaili's first show and I think it was a good one. I won 400 dollars in gambling. Then my wallet got stolen. But alas, I am replacing the innards of my wallet and moving on. It was a great weekend and wallets are nothing but materialistic items. Highlights: the TV in our bathroom mirror, the Bellagio Gardens, and Beer Pong Tables!

School graduation date has been set, as long as everything goes as planned: August 08. Oh yes! CSULB for my Masters, here I come!

Cheers.
